They canceled Resident Alien. And I am once again reminded that we do not deserve Alan Tudyk.
The man has given us heartbreak — Wash. Dry wit — K-2SO. Full alien absurdity — Harry. And whatever chaotic emotional bomb he's currently becoming in my brain that I won't be explaining further.
Some of us have been emotionally wrecked since Wash and the dinosaurs. We were not okay then. We are not okay now. We have made our peace with this.
What gets me every time is the range. From the man who said "I am a leaf on the wind" with complete sincerity and destroyed an entire generation of sci-fi fans, to a grey alien learning to be human by watching too much television and taking everything literally. These are not small roles. These are performances that require a person to be entirely committed to the absurd and the devastating in the same breath, sometimes in the same line.
And Nathan Fillion — former space cowboy, present-day man of devastating cheekbones, current keeper of the most unhinged cryptic Instagram campaign in recorded history. "It's time." Knocking on doors. Won't say what for. Very on brand. Very captain energy. The kind of charisma that makes you trust someone completely before you've had time to question it.
Together these two built something real. A podcast. A community. A crap closet full of mystery and genuine goodwill. The Once Were Spacemen fandom exists because Firefly ended too soon, and these two never let people forget that the crew was worth something.
We all know who the real pilot is.
Happy birthday, Spacemen. You have no idea what you started.
